Seems like the only remaining issue is resizing / moving the command window over multiple monitors, OP seems to have no further issues, closing as duplicate (see bug #45220).

If it happens again, I wonder if you close the command window and try the move if it doesn't crash - ie: the actual issue is the resizing of the command window.

Yes, you're probably right. What should we do about this bug about manipulating the whole Octave window? It seems to have cleared up for now. I can post an update in a week to see if it stays fixed.

The command line issue may be related to Bug #45220

After restarting, Octave still works without crashing when I move the window around.
On a related note, I can get it to crash by manipulating the command window. This only happens on my second, larger monitor. I have the command window set up to take up the entire right hand side of the Octave window, so it is very long vertically. In this configuration, only the left hand side of the command window shows anything, and the right hand side is blank. I have attached a screenshot. If I move the command window down to the bottom of the Octave window, it shows all of the text. If I move it back to its original position, Octave crashes.

I tried a couple of similar things here in the hope of causing it to crash but was not successful.
Let us know if it does it again.

Octave seems to have sorted itself out. Here's what I've done:
First I set my second, larger monitor as my main screen. Octave then started up on that screen, and it did not crash if I manipulated the window between the two screens. So I thought perhaps it was okay if Octave initialized on a larger screen first.
Then I set my laptop screen as my main screen, and disconnected my second, larger monitor. Again, Octave doesn't crash. I can minimize it, maximize it, and move the window around without issue.
Now, I reconnected my second monitor again, and now Octave is working just fine. It now starts up either minimized or maximized, wherever it was when I closed the window from my last session. This is different than before when it always started up on the laptop screen fully maximized. Now, I can move the window between screens without a problem.
The only changes I've made were switching my primary screen and then setting it back to normal, disconnecting and reconnecting my secondary screen, and also changing my background picture (because in setting the primary screen to another monitor, Windows changed the background screen to black for some reason). Thoughts? I think I will restart my computer to refresh everything and make sure it's still working.

Nothing seems out of the ordinary that I can tell then.
Is it possible to disable the 2nd monitor and try running octave and see if it still opens maximizes and crashes in minimize/maximize the GUI ?
I have two screens setup, however can not get it to crash

Octave has always started maximized. I did not set it up to do this, it was the default.
I installed Octave using the installer from the zip file.
I start Octave (GUI) by searching for octave in my start menu (Windows 10) and selecting the Octave (GUI) desktop app option. When I right click this and go to file location, it directs me to this shortcut: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Octave-4.0.3\Octave (GUI). The shortcut's target is: C:\Octave\Octave-4.0.3\octave.vbs --force-gui
I am running Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000. My resolutions for my screens are:
Screen 1 Monitor: Generic PnP Monitor (My laptop screen)
Screen 1 Resolution: 1366x768 (32 bit) (60 Hz)
Screen 2 Monitor: Dell ST2420L (HDMI)
Screen 2 Resolution: 1920 x 1080 (32 bit) (59 Hz)

Also:
did you install octave using the installer, from the zip file, or own build?
Are you starting from the menu shortcuts, or directly from the executable (and if so, which one)
What video card and resolutions are you running?

Hi,
Does it always start maximized? Or have you changed it to always start maximized?

Tue 02 Aug 2016 04:34:33 PM UTC, original submission:
I am running Windows 10 and Octave 4.0.3. When I open the Octave GUI, it opens up maximized to fit my screen. If I do any of the following, Octave crashes:
- Minimize then maximize the GUI
- Move the GUI to my second monitor
- Minimize, move the GUI to my second monitor, then maximize
- Minimize the GUI (this only crashes Octave sometimes)
This happens both on 4.0.2 and 4.0.3. I was using 4.0.2 up until today, and this bug only started happening a couple weeks ago. I did not change anything with Octave between before the bug or after it started happening.
Please let me know of anything I can do to help solve this bug.
