I attach my attempt to solve the problem. It seems that it is not possible to mark a diagonal matrix as singular. At least, with my changeset, a warning is given.

If you run

N = [1,0;0,0]; N \ [1;1]

you get a warning about the singularity of N, and matrix_type(N) is Singular. But with

M = eye(2);, M(2,2) = 0; M \ [1;1]

no warning and matrix_type(M) is Unknown.
