We've moved to GRUB 2 as our development branch. *BSD booting is not supported there, so I'm closing this bug.

If someone wants to work on *BSD boot support for GRUB 2, please contact us at <grub-devel@gnu.org> announcing your intent to avoid duplication of effort.

No, support to directly boot NetBSD should NOT be removed. Doesn't anyone ever think of netbooting? Either make NetBSD's pxeboot bootable somehow or support booting the kernel directly properly. Thanks.

Hi,

The code to directly boot NetBSD should be simply removed, or at least the documentation should make it very clear that it is an harmful way of booting NetBSD for the system: the symbol table gets trashed. It might not be actually harmful on the current stable branch of NetBSD, but it is on the development branch: you cannot load modules.

That piece of code hasn't been updated since the changes to the way of booting NetBSD that took place in 1999. The changes required for that are not small and the bootblocks of NetBSD are designed to boot it, no need to duplicate that part of the work.

Thank you in advance,
Quentin Garnier.

GRUB doesn't pass kernel parameters to NetBSD in the newer manner.
For example, the boot drive information is inappropriate. This is not
so critical but this is not desirable. Because later versions of NetBSD
have some good features which can be passed by a boot loader, GRUB
should support them.

Okuji
