Many thanks, it is indeed an issue with MacPorts, I could fix it by reinstalling octave, evidently this aligns the compilers and solves the dependency issue.

This has been reported before, and is still not a bug in the control package or in Octave. See bug #41520.

This is not a bug in the control package, but a bug in your system configuration (or the configuration of the Octave packaging that you have used from MacPorts).

If you look into how the control package is built and how Octave stores the FLIBS variable, it is probably working correctly. What probably happened is that your Octave package was built or installed using one version of GCC, that was then uninstalled or upgraded, and the path is no longer valid.

On Debian the compiler reports the GCC version directory as just "5" instead of "5.4.0", this makes upgrading between minor versions much smoother.

You should work with MacPorts to improve this situation, either by adding a harder dependency against the exact version of GCC that Octave was compiled against, or by fixing the GCC paths to be less specific.

I am trying to build the "control" package in octave 4.02.
My computer is a MacBook Pro running MacOS X 10.11.5, and octave had been installed using MacPorts.

I download the package directly from forge with the command

>> pkg install -forge control

When checking the libraries installed in my system, I find the directory

but I do not understand why the configuration looks for an older version
