Please carefully read the definition again.

Nobody wants you to pronounce "HSXGA" other than spelling it out as five letters. There are no vowels. Why would you want to pronounce it as a word?

"Please note that acronyms are always pronounced as the
spelling indicates." refers to cases like the well-known example HiFi, the pronounciation of which differs from the base term High Fidelity.

vera.texi says:

"Please note that acronyms are always pronounced as the
spelling indicates."

The word "acronym" is commonly used in two different ways: as
it's used here, and as a more general term for any abbreviation
formed from a string of initial letters. A more accurate word
is "initialism".

In any case, Vera definitely contains abbreviations that are not
pronounced as words. (If you're able to pronounce "HSXGA"
without hurting yourself, I'd love to hear it.)
