Roger: please ask such questions on the help mailing list instead.

Debian testing and stable-backports have 4.0.2 ready to use, as does Ubuntu's development version. The Ubuntu semi-official PPA will have 4.0.2 soon. If none of those work for you, you'll have to build from source.

Thanks for the pointer to bug 45372.
That solves the primary problem.

The problem now becomes more trivial and irritating: "apt-get upgrade" does not take me beyond 4.0.0.
Do I need to acquire source and build from scratch?

Yes if you change the example to

then it crashes for me also. This bug has been fixed since Octave 4.0.1: see bug #45372.

my code is

then a click causes a crash - a REAL crash that kills octave.
BUT - weirdly - the posted code does work.

i now find that 2D images work OK, but RGB causes the advertised break.

yes - i'm using the "qt" graphics kit.

i'll look into a 4.0.2 upgrade.

The following works for me:

Can you show an example that crashes as you reported?

Can you try upgrading to version 4.0.2? There have been many bug fixes, including some having to do with image plots that may be related to this.

Hi,

Thanks for your report. There has been issues with mouse interaction and uint8 images in Octave 4.0, but I can't confirm this one. At least running the following code works for me:

Also you marked this bug as a crash: does Octave exit abruptly or simply return an error as your excerpt suggests? Are you using the default grapĥics_toolkit ("qt")?

I load any image, then display with imshow, then call ginput.

When I click in the image, octave crashes with

(line 85 of ginput is "sleep(0.01)").

Am I alone in this? (I cannot find any similar report).
I am trying to run a big code that worked A-OK under version 3 ... my version 4 is a vanilla download.
