This was pretty easy to fix. I added commas to the list of ignored characters (spaces and tabs) for the tex interpreter. See cset (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/72bf7fbc8210).

When the interpreter property is set to 'tex' for graphics text objects, the color may be specified using

Octave only supports a space as the delimiter between Red, Green, and Blue values. Matlab supports commas and spaces.

For compatibility, Octave should be able to accept this
