The octave.css wasn't working, I made a few more .htaccess changes on top of yours and I think it's working better now.

It only took me about 5 attempts to get the rewrite rule correct, but yes, I think it is working now.

Yeah, before I had a chance to "apt install cvs" jwe already beat me to it, so this is fixed now for all old versions of Octave.

@Mike: It's reasonable to fix this bug in two different ways so that it doesn't recur.  I don't do much with the website code since it uses CVS.  Can you update it, or ask jwe to do it?

I think it would be very helpful for people with older versions of Octave, and probably not hard to do, to update .htaccess on the web server to allow "interpreter" to work without the trailing slash.

Confirmed.  I think it is because an ordinary browser will default to opening index.html if the bare URL does not name a file.  Apparently the Qt Browser Widget needs an exact filename.

I made that change on the stable branch here (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/7cb63f3994b0).  This will be a part of the 4.0.3 bug fix release.

Confirmed. We should see if we can tweak the web server aliases so this URL works without the trailing slash.

When you select a menu item in a GUI for the online documentation, the browser opens link http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/doc/interpreter which caused error 404 (not found).
