No further information from reporter, let's assume is is in fact bug #45578, closing as a duplicate.

A partial fix for bug #45578 was recently pushed to Mercurial.  Could the original poster verify whether using a tip greater than or equal to 21384:ad1dbbd23f1d now works?

I'm pretty certain that this is related to bug #45578.  I'm adding it as a dependency.

This might be the same bug as reported in #45578 ?

Building Octave with "make -j4 all" or "make -j8 all" on 64-bit Ubuntu has recently started giving the following error:

  GEN    c++defs.h
  GEN    warn-on-use.h
  GEN    unused-parameter.h
  GEN    stdalign.h
mv: cannot stat `c++defs.h-t': No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [c++defs.h] Error 1
make[2]: *** Waiting for unfinished jobs....
make[1]: *** [check-recursive] Error 1

Occasionally it's a different "header.h-t" inside libgnu.

BUT: the rest of the build proceeds normally until it freezes at the end. Killing "make" and rerunning the command with no changes now builds Octave on the second attempt.

This problem does not arise with "make -j1 all" or simply "make all" but that takes 4-8 times as long.

It looks like the "header.h-t" files are used by libgnu/Makefile only as temp files during the build. Are these necessary?
