Just for the record: symbolic 2.2.4 should work with Octave 3.8.2

It looks like the symbolic package is using an internal function that was added to Octave 4.0.0. It will work with Octave 4.0 but apparently not with 3.8.2, at least for now.

Hello Michael,

thanks a lot for your help!

Well I installed the symbolic version 2.2.3 as proposed, but syms (or maybe sympy) are still not working. I have added a pic for better information. Please take a look for seeing the actual error message which Octave displays now.

What do you think could I do next?

Would you also consider installing the current Octave release
of maybe wait a bit for the next release which is planned for
"quite soon"?

The screenshot shows you are using an ancient unsupported version of the symbolic package. Version 1.1.0 did not include the "syms" command. Please try again using the current 2.2.3 version of the package. Feel free to open another bug report if you continue to have problems using the latest version of the package.

Hello,

recently I installed Gnu Octave 3.8.2 in my Android smartphone. I can run Octave, it works as expected.

But when using operations which required the symbolic package (for example ">syms s" or, using the laplace operator) I get following error message: "error:'syms' undefined near line 1".

I have tried different actions (installing phyton 3.4.3, sympy 0.7.6.1, checking all installed packages, updating, etc) without success. The package symbolic is installed and the OS (linux 3.4.0) shows it as working.

By now, after several attempts, i have not a clue about what to do next for solving the problem!

For better understanding the error messages generated and some more information about system configuration, please take a look at the attached files.

For any kind of help I would be very thankful.
