The splash screen has now been completely re-implemented, so hopefully this issue has been resolved.

Using boxes like desktop viewer, pspp still fast and reliable connection under not very fast network (0.94Mbps↓ - 0.48Mbps↑).

In my case, I prefer a progress indicator when performing a calculation with large data rather than a brief splash screen in psppire.
When a large calculation is performed, an application psppire seems not working.

Is this something PSPP should be concerned about?

Does the user have different expectations for PSPP when everything on the slow network is already also slow?

I don't know. On a modern, fast standalone machine the startup speed is not a problem. However if the machine is operating over a network, then latency can be significant. Unfortunately there is no reliable way to know a priori if it is needed.

When I start psppire on MacOS on a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo it is really fast. Should we maybe abandon the splash screen?

I've been using PSPP builds snapshots of that fix features that I need, and I've noticed that at random, the start screen is black when you start PSPP. This occurs in the GNOME and KDE.

psppire 0.9.0-g69e4fa, thanks
