As far as my system (Fedora 22) goes this bug
is fixed as is #45540, so should be
closed unless there are problems on Windows...

Is this bug still relevant? Bug #45540, which may be a duplicate of this, has been marked as fixed and closed.

@Panxto: yep a typo, sorry, I meant bug #45540.

As I wrote I can confirm it for dev (4.1.0+) on Windows.
The Linux version of that same build (present here as I need to create a dist archive for cross-building with MXE) doesn't suffer from this bug.
Again, this version is 3 weeks old (the build is from end of June: b6a59cc96bfa "Process backslash...."). I think the fix for bug #45372 was included already (fix is from June 22).

The crash is triggered on any picture AFAICS.

Today I was trying to cross-build a tip again (a.o., for Dan / bug #44485) but got hit by the recent build changes when cross-building (octave_1_doc-install.patch to be precise) and ran out of time today - plus soon I'm on holiday for the next weeks.

-HOT- just finished a Linux build of 6b7c10920dfe "make interpreter targets..." and that also works fine.

@Philip: I suppose you meant bug #45540 (the one you pointed to is not an Octave bug).
Was the release of this bug changed? Correct me if I am wrong, it was initially reported as being observed in Octave 4.0. Did someone reproduce it in dev? If not it shouldn't be related to bug #45540 that didn't happen in 4.0.

If the displayed image is not double (e.g. uint8) then it could be related to bug #45372 which has been fixed (http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/dc74b700cdec). I think that is why Rik asked if zooming was needed.
Can the OP attach the image that triggers the bug?

To the OP:
Can you please try with another graphics backend?:

close all
graphics_toolkit fltk

-or-

close all
graphics_toolkit gnuplot

and report back?
Looks to me it is a duplicate of bug #45550.

Is may be the same as the bug reported for qt, so
please check if you are using qt by:
graphics_toolkit()

Can you try something very simple just to see if plotting is working? Try

and see if you can interact with the plot such as using the zoom feature.

I am trying to see the image file nameOfFile.JPEG

I = imread('nameOfFile.JPEG');
imshow(I);

The figure is created properly but then when I click anywhere within the figure, it closes along with the Octave GUI.
