It seems to depend on the compiler. It happens with gcc-4.4.3, but not with 4.7.2.

Make your .nanorc end with the following lines:

Then run 'nano -Y strings newfile' (where newfile is a nonexistent file), and then type <Enter> 123 <Enter>.

See how the 123 are coloured red while you are typing them, but the colouring disappears as soon as you hit <Enter>... Absurd. There is no double quote anywhere in sight, how can it be colouring things red?

This happens in current SVN, in 2.4.2, and goes back all the way to 2.3.2. In 2.3.1 and 2.3.0 it will happen on the third line (that is, preceding the 123 with two <Enter>s). I haven't checked back further.
