Good it's working, thanks for checking again. Closing bug as working.

Well. Something must have be messed up with my environment variables the other day. Both 3.8.2 and 4.0.0 rc4 compiled just fine with

I'll try to compile with the 4.0 release candidate. I didn't set any special flags, and I don't think I have any strange environment variables set.

Given that 3.8.2 is just about to be deprecated, could you try with the release candidate for version 4.0.0. as suggested by Mike in comment #1?

If the problem is in the latest release we will need to fix it, but I don't see going back to fix 3.8.2.

Thanks for your bug report. I'm unable to reproduce this on either CentOS 6 or Debian testing. I tried building from a freshly extracted octave-3.8.2.tar.bz2:

and Octave builds successfully. Were any optional features disabled in your build? Anything weird about permissions of the source directory?

Can you try again with a freshly extracted 3.8.2?

Can you try the current release candidate for version 4.0.0?

I'm compiling on CentOS 6 for a non-admin install. If I configure with

Then when I run `make' I end up with this error

Using the --disable-docs flag
`make' runs just fine.

Also, if I just use the defaule configuration
`make' also works fine. Though I won't be able to actually run `make install'.
