Removing the additionally added breakpoint (if it was not already existing before) is implemented with changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/e93b8887fedf

Closing the report.

I will continue to work on removing the breakpoint if it wasn't already there.

Your patch does the right thing for me. I changed the status to Fixed. It is your call whether you want to close the bug, or continue to work on removing the breakpoint after it has been hit the first time.

Changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/9ec36417c262 provides this features. The only way I can figure out to get octave to start stepping through a not yet running file is to set a breakpoint at the very first line and run the file.

This behavior of the F10 key is still the same in Octave 4.2.0.

Retagging release from 4.0.0-rc2 to 4.0.0.

currently if there's a breakpoint set, the user needs to press F5 then F10; F10 alone should suffice -- in fact, even if no breakpoint is set.
