Please ignore my comment #5. This is the normal, documented behavior. Concerning the AltGr-problem, I am going to change the default shortcut.

In windows I get the same behavior like you and I can not enter a shortcut like Ctrl+Shift+0 since the "0" is always interpreted as "=" ("Shift+0"). I am quite sure this was working when the shortcut manager was implemented. Moreover, since "Ctrl+Alt+0" is the default shortcut I am wondering why the issue with "}" comes up only now. Can anyone using a German keyboard layout can confirm that "AltGr+0" was working for inserting "}" without changing shortcuts?

Oh, interesting!

Yes, I really tried AltGr+0 AND Ctrl+Alt+0.

Testing again:
(1) Zoom Normal shortcut is Ctrl+0. I can enter closing curly brackets in the GUI editor with either AltGr+0 or Ctrl+Alt+0.
(2) Set Zoom Normal shortcut to Ctrl+Alt+0 using "Set to default" button. It's now impossible to produce the closing curly brackets with both AltGr+0 and Ctrl+Alt+0.

Probably linked to the problem: When I try to set the shortcut to Ctrl+Alt+0 by performing it, the field "Actual shortcut" says "Ctrl+Alt+}". I did not press AltGr when trying this.

This still might be an issue. I am also using the German keyboard layout and have configured the "Zoom normal" shortcut to "Ctrl+Alt+0" (which is the default). However, it is possible to use "AltGr+0" for "}" and "Ctrl+Alt+0" for resetting the zooming factor. So are you really trying to use "AltGr+0" for the closing curly bracket or "Ctrl+Alt+0"?

I made mistake in my description, sorry. The opening curly brackets are typed on German keyboards by pressing AltGr+7 or alternatively Ctrl+Alt+7 (both work in GUI terminal and editor). Likewise, for the closing curly brackets I use AltGr+0 or Ctrl+Alt+0 (both work in GUI terminal, neither works in GUI editor).

And in fact, Ctrl+Alt+0 is the shortcut for "Zoom Normal"! After changing the shortcut to Ctrl+0, I can now enter the closing curly bracket by with both AltGr+0 and Ctrl+Alt+0.

Thanks for the help!

Thanks for your bug report. Can you check if there is an action attached to Alt+7 key sequence in the shortcut manager: see File>Preferences, Shortcut tab. You should see all the shortcuts for the editor actions.

Using Octave 4.0.0-rc1 from ftp://alpha.gnu.org/gnu/octave under Windows 7 64bit I have a strange problem with closing curly brackets ('}'): I can enter them in the GUI terminal, but not in the GUI Editor, while my keyboard layout is set to German.

Some details:
(1) It does work fine when I use US keyboard layout
(2) Using German layout, I can write an open curly bracket without problems (using Alt+7), but trying to write the closing bracket (using Alt+0) is just ignored. Subsequently using Alt+0 does not produce the character either.
(3) I can enter the closing curly bracket via decimal Unicode (using Alt+0125).
(4) Pasting the char works fine as well.
(5) Because I saw some reports concerning bugs with square brackets in earlier versions: Square brackets work fine on my system.
