Thanks for the report.

Which version of windows are you using? Where did the 3.8.2 octave come from, and was it installed via the nsis installer, or some other method.

Can you try 4.0.0-rc2 and see if it has the same problems?

It should be untaring to the system temp folder, not c:\user, which should be the folder matching environment variable TEMP, or if that isnt defined, the environment variable TMP, if neither of those work, then it will attempt to use c:\temp

Pkg install uses untar which uses mkdir. It attempts to create a dir under c:\User to which it has no permission. The mkdir fails but untar goes ahead to attempt an untar to a non-existing folder. This causes the install to fail.

I would suggest a \tmp dir to be created from the root or just on the desktop.

If there is a setting to change the target folder to other than c:\User, it would be helpful to have it in an install note.
