The bug #45497 is duplicated of this one but I'll be marking this one instead since the other already has a patch and more discussion.

Matlab definitely seems to be following the Microsoft model of "Embrace and Extend". They take a feature, but then tweak it so that it only runs on their systems unless the programmer recodes or Octave adapts.

Great, almost the same thing as our repelems but not quite the same. Time to chase after Matlab again, as they break what we did first.
