I think all of the packages mentioned in this bug report now have been either resolved or have separate bug reports of their own. Closing as fixed. In the future it is better to submit specific bug reports as general ones like this are harder to keep track of.

Retagging release from 4.0.0-rc1 to 4.0.0.

Mon 04 May 2015 08:09:39 PM UTC, comment #24:
So whats the changes of a new ode pkg being released before 4.0.0?
Last time I tried it, whats in mercurial works with minor (or no) patches
The currently released version needs to effectly be patched to be the same as whats in mercurial to work
I just installed the 2.0.0 geometry ok, so maybe that will fix the issues you saw with it.

Status for rc4: running build_packages on Win7:
odepkg-0.8.4 fails:
geometry-1.7.0 fails without error message, trying to install it manually succeed.
tsa-4.2.7 & ltfat-2.0.1 succeed with warnings described in

Linear-algebra:
warning refers to a deprecated function, so probably not very important (altough would be nice to disable the warning at least)
Actuarial:
this package is unmaintained and not handled by Octave Forge anymore.

Looks like quite a few of packages being released today - I will push some mxe-octave change sets for them tonight unless someone else gets to it before then.

Packages image, control & odepkg were changed on the repository,
and the current version compiles with ver. 4.0.0-rc1, but there no
official release yet.

No, I tested installation of all packages using the -nodeps option. The signal-1.3.0 package does install with -nodeps (although I will be putting out a new version soon anyway). The updated list in comment #13 reflects packages that really do fail to compile and need to be updated.

Sun 15 Mar 2015 07:08:11 PM UTC, comment #15:
I believe several of those in comment 13 will install when a new control from mercurial is released.

Sun 15 Mar 2015 07:06:59 PM UTC, comment #14:
You do not list package signal-1.3.0 as failing.
Is its failure secondary to control-2.6.6 failing?

I've just sent out a call for updated Octave Forge packages.
The current list of released packages that do not compile with 4.0.0-rc1 are:
- communications-1.2.0
- control-2.6.6
- dicom-0.1.1
- image-2.2.2
- linear-algebra-2.2.0
- odepkg-0.8.4
- windows-1.2.1
Linear-algebra-2.2.1 has been released and does work with 4.0, but see patch #8602.
See also bug #41131 for another Windows installation error affecting the netcdf, odepkg, and windows packages.

@Ingmar: Thanks for helping to test 4.0.0-rc1! All I can say about the Octave Forge packages is that updates will be coming and they will be released when they are released. But we do hope to have a 4.0.0 final release with a bundle of compatible Octave Forge packages.

Wed 11 Mar 2015 12:07:26 AM UTC, comment #11:
Sorry to barge in more from the end user side of things, but I have recently started using 4.0.0.rc1 MXE to test for fixes to bugs in 3.8.2 MXE such as #42309 and #44257.
Since these bugs are indeed fixed in 4.0.0.rc1, I would like to continue with it, also to help a bit with beta testing. However, I see the same failures of package builds as below (+optim) and my work desperately requires the signal package, at least.
So, my question is where and how can I find out when/if control and signal have been fixed/upgraded to 4.0.0.rc1? Octave-Forge is not very "telling" here since it e.g. list >= 3.8.0 as the dependency for signal, which obviously is only part-true...

@jwe:
While my C++ / autotools proficiency is not much, if there's anything I can reasonably do to make pre-built packages happen I'd be glad to help as well.
I usually tend very much to think from the end-user perspective and ergonomics; pre-built packages would be a big step forward there.

I would ultimately like to build a cross version of mkoctfile and cross compile with packages. Would you like to help with that job?
|
Fri 06 Mar 2015 05:04:42 PM UTC, comment #7:
Prebuild would be good, but I don't think is going to happen in mxe any time real soon.
Most of the packages seem to build either from repo, or with patches from the bug tracker. (at least for 32 bit)

Fri 06 Mar 2015 04:30:05 PM UTC, comment #6:
Hmmm, how about the wish that MXE binaries would be released with pre-built packages?
Anyway, as to comment #3 (building dependencies): nice that dependencies can always be built.
FTR, I've almost finished with a new linear-algebra release (ismatrix changes), this weekend a new io release (bug fixes), a little later mapping, and I have locally (on my boxes) fixed versions of communications, dicom, odepkg, data-smoothing, fl-core and windows that compile and work in 3.9.1+/4.0.0 (at least they did until recently).
As to those latter ones, I'll try to supply patches for the respective OF package repos later (I can't spend much time on Octave these days).
<Category changed to "Octave-Forge package".
It is not Octave's conf./build system that is at fault, it's the OF packages that lag behind>

Fri 06 Mar 2015 02:50:36 PM UTC, comment #5:
IMHO there should be some coordination period to give Octave Forge package maintainers a chance to release updated packages that work with one of the release candidates. If after whatever time period is agreed on the packages have not been updated and do not work with the release candidate, then it could be considered to drop them from the mxe-octave bundle.

Fri 06 Mar 2015 12:49:04 PM UTC, comment #4:
Thanks, I have sent mail to the list.
|
Fri 06 Mar 2015 12:37:18 PM UTC, comment #3:
The package maintainers.
Perhaps the number of packages that are provided in mxe should be diminished to just the ones that are most common?
Initially I had added many of them to ensure that the dependent libraries would be built, as it would be a pain for the normal windows user to compile any dependent libraries and then install the package, however I did put a mechanism in the mxe makefile to allow just compiling dependent libraries and not the octave package.

So, the packages bundled to MXE-Octave should be updated.
Who can do that?
|
Fri 06 Mar 2015 11:29:25 AM UTC, comment #1:
Most of them fail because the control package fails and the struct package fails:
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=44058
https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?func=detailitem&item_id=44176
The sources for both in mercurial both work ok.
