More generally, it would be nice if external helper programs could be specified for given mime times. This is on my list for quite some time and might remain on the list for a while... :(

I agree that this automatic html import should be turned off. 99% of the time I insert html hlinks only for them to be available as reference in the final pdf document, and accidentally activating them while editing the document is an annoyance. In such case it would be actually more usefull if it would open the web browser with the link, and this could be a preference setting.

I still think that it's a neat feature that TeXmacs is able to import nicely html directly from the web (for instance Wikipedia pages). But then what's the most natural/expected UI in that case? Inserting a hlink in a document and then clicking on it doesn't seem very intuitive for such an action.

When I click on an hlink to a local document that's a .tm file, that's fine, but when I click on one that's to an http accessed external html file, that's not alright because it makes TeXmacs seem to "hang" for the time it takes to get the file.

Perhaps it should offer to open html in an external browser, for link checking?
That should be a configuration option, and also an option to do nothing when an http (or mailto?) link is clicked.

For now, how can I shut that feature off? Is it controlled within the C++ code, or inside scheme, or what?
