No further information from OP in several months, closing as invalid, assumed fixed in a newer release. If that is not the case another report can be filed.

I'm sure going to try release 4.0.0 but at the moment I'm not having the possibility to test. Could last until June. If it is possible earlier I will write the results here.

Thx in Advance

Can the original reporter try with one of the new 4.0.0 release candidates available at ftp://alpha.gnu.org? This has likely been fixed.

Hello Mike!

Yes, I'm used to have the caret key working in octave gui and default implemented editor.

Yes, I can copy and paste the caret key from another application like gedit.

Yes, in Octave 3.8.1 terminal the caret key is also working.

Only the gui environment with the default implemented standard editor is having this problem.

In fact I installed an inkscape-trunk package and the daily updates available for standard packages of ubuntu 12.04.

But never changed some obvious settings belonging to the keyboard or something else.

I've never activated any shortcut keys to switch between german or english keyboard layout for example or anything similar.

thx in advance

Niko

Thanks for your bug report. Since you imply that this used to work with the same version of Octave, I'm not sure that this is an Octave bug at all. Any idea about what has changed on your system recently? Can you paste the caret symbol from another program into the Octave command window?

What is the default editor? Do you mean the editor in the Octave GUI or another editor program on your system?

Can you enter the character when running Octave in a terminal, without the GUI?

I few days ago my Octave 3.8.1 gui and defautl editor stopped "responding to ^-key".

System:

I-Core i5
16GiB RAM
Linux Ubuntu 12.04.
32-Bit Octave.

I've tried a workaround trough ANSI Coding by
holding down

CTRL+SHIFT+U and typing "5e" (HEX CODE FOR ^).

DID NOT WORKING TOO.

All other applications and UBUNTU terminal react as usual.

So only for the moment only Octave gui and the default editor seem to be affected.

OUTPUT OF TERMINAL

I'm using a german keyboard layout.
