Hi Evangelos Rozos,
this bugreport is for Octave 3.8.2 on Windoze. If you have similiar issues with 3.8.1 on Ubuntu 14.10, then please open a new bugreport.

Please add: Are you running the CLI or GUI or can this be reproduced on both? Do you see an error/warning? Have you installed Octave from Ubuntu repo or build your own? Which OpenGL driver do you use? Any proprietary drivers?

Can you build [2] Octave 4.0.0 rc2 from source [1] with debugging symbols and see if this problem still exists?

It does crashes. Please reopen the ticket. In my case
plot(1:900) works OK
plot(1:1000) crashes!

If graphics_toolkit is set to "gnuplot" instead then everything OK.

System details:

cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 14.10

GNU Octave, version 3.8.1
graphics_toolkit
ans = fltk

uname -a
3.2.0-65-generic-pae #99-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jul 4 21:17:05 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux

Not enough information to debug. Can open a new report if the same behavior exists with release 4.0.

I have also had the very same behavior last week while giving an Octave course in a classroom with a bunch of elderly desktop PCs. This was the current 3.8.2-3 mxe version on Windows 7, downloaded from mxeoctave.osuv.de. Gnuplot worked fine, though. Since the course is over now, I do not have access to those PCs any more, sorry...

Could you provide some more informations? Where have you downloaded GNU Octave? Please add the URL and if you used the Installer or the portable version. Which version of Windows are you using?

If you use the Octave cmdline, what do you see after executing "plot (rand (3))". Please copy every message or error on startup verbatim, especially errors and "warning ... shadows a core function"

Octave GUI (experimental version) or Octave command line version freeze when a plot command is excecuted. A plot window opens but nothing happens any more.

After some seconds Octave crashes and both windows close. Windows reports and unexpected termination of Octave.

Changing to GNU plot could overcome the problems.
