If the status code is 'success, either the file was downloaded/updated or not touched at all.
In this case check the time with 'stat' using %Y and/or %Z. If both did not change, the file wasn't downloaded/updated.

This approach also works when you download several files at once with one single Wget command.

I'm trying to get the status of a download request using -N.

-N completes successfully, as it should, but 'success' is ambiguous with -N, either the file exists or the file was downloaded.

I'd like to know which one for use with bash scripting. I'm requesting a status code for the -N option. whether it be by success: file exists already, success: file doesn't exist but was downloaded. failure: various reasons.
