Unable to reproduce this with a current mxe build of Octave's default branch on Windows XP. Feel free to reopen or comment again if this bug still affects the current development version.

This error occurs only after the first start. After you have closed the GUI with the Task Manager and restarts Octave GUI everything works.

A few questions:

Were you doing anything prior to attempting to exit.

On what system was this cross compiled?

What version of Windows?

The Octave GUI can't close with
1. File => Exit
2. ALT+F4
3. the cross to close applications
