This bug was fixed in FLTK 1.3.3, released November 2014.

Could you please close this bug now?

Confirmed, this is due to a change in mac font libraries. FLTK (which I assume you are using by default) have already fixed this warning in their development version (see e.g. [1] for fltk) but I don't know when it will be released.

I mark this bug "postponed" as it depends on when FLTK will release their fixed version.

I suspect that this is not really an Octave bug as I have seen this message before with some other applications.
But, I am submitting it just in case something in Octave can be done to improve "performance".

On opening Octave this appeared in the Command Window.

2014-08-26 13:04:29.579 octave-gui[19119:240b] CoreText performance note: Client called CTFontCreateWithName() using name "Lucida Grande" and got font with PostScript name "LucidaGrande". For best performance, only use PostScript names when calling this API.
