This is a MAWK bug:
https://github.com/ThomasDickey/original-mawk/issues/42

workaround commited in 11c60cee2f41125c5017af2365e9313bdbb0bc2c

"Can someone try with the current MAWK?"

I did with Ubuntu 16 LTS. The same issue persists.

Mhh. I am not sure whether the issue is fixed. It is not an issue in LE, but if it happens to be still an issue in current releases of MAWK, then a workaround (to call gawk and require gawk to be installed) seems reasonable...

Can someone try with the current MAWK?

Issue fixed. As suggested by Ramack, mawk proved to be the problem. Installing gawk from the Ubuntu repo and setting it to be used instead of mawk solved the problem. Thans Rapha !

FIY: this issue exists, or rather: existed, on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

For me this looks like a bug in mawk. could you try
sudo update-alternatives -s awk /usr/bin/gawk

to use gawk instead of mawk?

Hi Paolo,

yes it is still present. Today I tested by doing a new 'git clone' on a current Ubuntu LTS system, i.e. this time native on the box, not on a VM. Same issue (see previously attached bitmap) persists.

cheers
Hans

Hi Cyril,

more information than the enclosed screenshot showed is not available. As noted: the installation did complete. This issue cropped up on an Ubuntu client on a VM as well as a native Ubuntu installation.

I do not understand how it can segfault. The progress() function should never receive 0 as third ("max") argument.

Please give more information because I cannot reproduce it.

as this installation script error is one of the first things that a new user sees, I think (from a marketing point of view) that it is more important to solve this issue than I initially did. For this reason I raised the severity one notch...

install.sh completes correctly. It calls tools.sh to display the completion status bar. I presume that tools.sh is given an invalid completion percentage value, after which it segfaults.

On Ubuntu 14.04 (64bit VM client on Win7/64 host) tools.sh segfaults at line 139, see attached screenshot. Ubuntu reports a severe MAWK error. As the installation process continues nonetheless, I set 'severity' to minor.
