Changeset http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/e449134870fb adds this feature into the default branch. The action is available via the view menu, the tab context menu and a configurable shortcut, which has no default vlaue.

I would be nice to have a menu when clicking an editor tab with the right mouse button to sort tabs alphabetically.
Matlab: right-click on the editor tab bar and select "alphabetize"
