A harder fix for this went into SVN, r5022. It is mildly permissive, as it allows for example Cut and PrevWord and NextWord to be bound in the browser menu even though this is pointles and will have no effect. But this was so previously too. For the rest it will prevent most of the useless assignments.

The wording in the documentation has been changed to match the behaviour. In SVN, r5002.

Ehm... No, the "where applicable" does not seem good. The whole problem is that nano, for "all", does not rebind a function only in those menus where the function is applicable, but really in all.

When you do "rebind ^U flipexecute all", nano does not bind ^U to flipexecute only in the Insertfile and Externalcommand menus, what I would expect and hope and desire, but effectively in all menus -- ^U stops being Uncut Text in the main menu.

So to make the docs match the behaviour, the phrase "(or in all menus where the function exists by using all)" would have to be changed to "(or in all menus by using all)".

I think it's sufficient to make the documentation say "where applicable" and be done with it. This doesn't seem worth stressing over.

In 'man nanorc' it says that, when rebinding keys, "all" means: «all menus where the function exists». But try this: add the line "bind ^A mark all" to your nanorc, then open a file, hit ^A, go down a bunch of lines, then hit ^W ^A. Eh? The mark gets switched off, even though in the Whereis menu there is no do_mark function available.

What to do? Change the wording in the man page to match the behaviour? Or make "all" do what it says, and thus preventing the user from adding functions to menus where they don't already exist (and thus most likely don't make sense)?
