This is already fixed with changeset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/14acb08d75fa
that provides a user preference in the settings whether the focus should stay in the editor or change to the terminal. When you are editing and testing a script with editor and command window visible it might be helpful to leave the focus in the editor.

The changeset is related to the gui-release branch, the feature will be available in version 4.0.

I'm using octave 3.8.1 in its GUI mode in Debian. When I edit a script in the Editor Tab and then press the Run button (or press F5), the script is executed, but the focus of the program is maintained on the Editor Tab instead to change to the Command Window. I think it could be nice (or at least configurable) that the focus change to the COmmand Window after pressing the Run button. However, if I select some lines of code and press F9 ('Run selection') the focus changes to the Command Window. I think this fact a bit inconsistent compared to the behavior of F5

Is known this behavior?
