Currently, nano trunk SVN r4745 uses both vsnprintf() and snprintf() (the latter only in the file locking code). However, configure.ac only checks for vsnprintf() and its glib-2.0 equivalent, so if a system has vsnprintf() but not snprintf(), there may be build problems on it. The configure script should probably be updated to check for snprintf() and its glib-2.0 equivalent as well (I remember that it did check for both before nano 2.x, but that was quite a while ago).
