Thank you for your bug report. This sounds exactly the same as bug #40900, closing as a duplicate.

Can you please read through the discussion on bug #40900 and see if you can contribute any further information that might help us reproduce or debug this issue?

I'm using Ubuntu 13.10 (Unity). When I start Octave GUI and start a new script in editor tab and put the first command, octave suggests me commands inside a popup window (like for, if ...), if I press <ENTER> or <SPACE> or <CLICK> octave GUI ends without any information about this situation like error number or something like this. Starting octave by the terminal with --force-gui option occurs the same and appear the following message in terminal: octave exited with signal 11.
