The bug you are seeing (right click does not select the clicked file) was fixed with changeset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/f1312db94896
in the stable branch

Closing the report.

@Felipe - No, none of the other commands in the context menu work.

@John - No, the file was not selected in the file browser when right I right clicked it. If I first select it with a left click and then do a right click, everything works as expected.

I note that when I right click on an item in the MATLAB GUI, it automatically highlights it for me before opening the context menu. This is probably where I picked up the habit of working this way.

does any other command in the context menu work -- rename, open, etc.?

Is the file that you are deleting selected in the file browser when right clicking on it to be deleted?

I can't confirm is.
creating, executing and deleting function/files works fine with MXE 3.8.0-4.
What version are you using? Portable or installer?

In the File Browser, I right click on func.m and click 'delete' and nothing happens.

If I issue the command

delete func.m

in the Command Window, it works as expected.

I am using the MXE build provided by Markus Bergholz, 3.8.0-4 on Windows 7.
