I have pushed changeset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/6504a1932637
in the gui-release branch. This changeset offers settings for including builtin and file functions into the auto completion list.

ha! you're right on spot.

can we rename this bug as a feature request: "code auto-completion should support function names".

thanks.

The only suggestion I have is to make sure you type keywords, not function names. I thought it wasn't working once when I tried typing "rand" and got back nothing. Try typing "fun" or "end" into a blank document. If no popup list appears, and you are sure the preference is enabled, then this may be specific to Win 7.

Can someone else with Win 7 test whether the GUI editor keyword completion is working?

I deleted my ~\.config\octave\qt-settings file and upon Octave restart, the bug persists.

let me know if you have any ideas to try.

thanks

Works for me with MXE build of 3.8.0 on Windows XP.

there's no popup list of suggestions at all.

tab-completion is fine.

sorry, I assumed "auto-completion" was unambiguous:

Felipe, it would be helpful if you could describe what is not working? First, I assume you mean the editor and not tab-completion in the command window right?

What isn't working? When you create a new file in the editor and type "end" do you get a popup with keywords starting with "end" or not? Are you able to type more and backspace to clear what you've typed or is the popup blocking keyboard input? Can you select items in the popup or not?

Is this a new bug or an existing bug?

this is window 7.

it works for another user (same build, same windows version).

any hints on how to debug this would be appreciated.

thanks.
