Suggestion applied, but new solution should be integrated soon, as Miguel said.

More weird emacs-world heritage...

Anyway, although the labels are indeed confusing and your observation that the question y/n/a is in the footer is valid, I'm closing this as won't fix, because of the new search dialog that Joris has been working on and will soon make these matters obsolete.

Now I understand.

It is supposed to be
Replace
Replace by

Replace one text by another. A bit confusing, because most editors have it differently.
So,

textmate:
find... replace..

word:
search document
replace with

emacs:
query replace:
query replace XX by:

In the QT version, 1.99.1, the query replace dialog says:

Replace: XX
Replace by: YY

instead of
Find text: XX
Replace by: YY

This is a fix for this problem:

(tm-define (replace-start-forward what by)
- (:argument what "Replace")
+ (:argument what "Find text")
(:argument by "Replace by")
(replace-start what by #t))

I also think it is a bit confusing that even though the dialog pops up as a separate window, the "Replace (y/n/a)" question comes at the footer (even though I have set the preferences for interactive questions to be in popup window.)
