I've pushed it:

Sure, lets go with that. You even let Strang back
in. His 4th edition is somewhat more accessible.

So, push it, please.

How about the attached alternative proposal?

I was a bit unsure about "promoting" Strang's book,
but it is widely viewed as a, if not the, classic.
Also, I just recently found that his latest edition
has some important improvements, in particular in
introducing more intuitive and diagrammatic explanations.

In any case, since it is on a level with Golub and Loan,
and that text is mentioned, I thought it would be appropriate.

Now that everyone is free to search the web and find what
they want, it does little harm to mention the conventional
classics. A search on "Strang" leads to some very good material
which is freely downloadable from his MIT courses...

But, if you want to edit him out, please go ahead, and push
the rest. OK?

I was tempted to mention Peter Lax's book too, but then would have just gotten into more trouble...

Sorry, I meant, unmatched, peerless, in its own class.

I'm not so sure about the promotion of Strang's linear algebra text here, nor about a discussion about how easy is it to buy his books and where.

Introductory linear algebra breed like rabbits. Everyone and their mother has written a linear algebra text. Golub and van Loan are of particular interest because it's a widely cited text for numerical linear algebra that really is unclassed.

However, if you or anyone else insists that I'm being particularly grouchy about accepting this edit, I'll relent and push this patch.

I classified this documentation patch
as release "dev" but it actually applies to all current
systems.

It would be helpful if someone could apply
the patch and close the report.

This corrects some typos and provides more suggestions
for sources of information about Linear Algebra.

Suggestions about formatting and style as well as other
reference sources would, of course, be welcome.
