There are still missing translations (see comment #5) but I agree to close this report and open a new one when translations have to be updated for 4.0.

Can this bug be closed at this point? I think the translations have been updated. The next major call for translations will be just before the 4.0 release.

These strings are inserted in to languages which do not have a translation in the QSintilla files.

pt_PT contains a lot of source strings that are absent in all other languages, especifically those under <name>QsciLexer* -- should they be removed from pt_PT or added to the other languages?

To comment #10: The translators are contacted. The problem for pt_PT is that no one is able to translate the missing text strings at the moment. How different is pt_PT from pt_BR? Maybe you can help translating the missing stuff?

as bug #41201 is marked fixed, I'm using this as a friendly reminded that to restore the translation updates that were lost, as per <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?41201#comment14> and <https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?41328#comment2>. Just trying to make sure this makes into 3.8.1 Thanks.

The language files in the gui-release branch are not immediately updated when there are string changes because strings are changing frequently in this branch. The language files in the stable branch are up to date.
However, I have pushed an update with changeset
http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/ac664a250eab
I tonly contains changes in line numbers not in the text strings themselves.

there are some GUI changes in gui-release not being reflected in the ts files, such as this one: <http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/6e8188effddf>
there's no string "a name containing spaces" here:
<http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/file/a2294cc6e027/libgui/languages/pt_BR.ts>
I'm afraid there might be similar ones in stable.
could someone please regenerate the ts files again? I want to make sure there are no translations unfinished. at least for stable, please.
thanks.

I'd suggest taking the opportunity and contacting all translators, asking if they could please check the result of their work live in the existing non-official binaries available.

We've collected enough time with the 3.8.0 release and are starting the 3.8.1 point release. Are the following translations still incomplete?
pt_PT.ts
ru_RU.ts
uk_UK.ts

The following translations should be finished before final release 3.8:
- Text about experimental GUI
- Qt-internal strings if language is missing in qt- or qsci-translations
The about-message is generated dynamically which requires more invasive changes and is scheduled for 4.0.

Do you have a patch for these strings? Or is this just an open report to keep everyone's memory of the issue alive?
The development branch is back to being for development so you can make these changes if you like.
