I guess this is the standard behaviour under MacOS.

Currently, we use QFileDialog with the default file model and filter entries according to a QStringList set with QFileDialog::setNameFilters() ~~~> standard procedure.

Alternatively, one can set the model directly or a proxy model for filtering. Both only grey out the items but also have as a consequence that we lose the drop down menu which allows the user to select the filter applied.

Maybe any of these three methods would actually hide the items under Linux or Windows, but not under MacOS (where the problem is found) ==> won't fix.

The file filters for loading, saving, etc. only grey out files which do not match the filter. I would prefer to make them invisible, which makes it easier to find matching files if there are a lot of files in the directory.
