The attached changeset fixes the problem for me, but I'm not a spline expert. If someone could review it and certify it then I will commit it.

Confirmed. And the problem is applicable to all "complete" inputs. If one inspects the spline.m m-file line 161 is only one case of an if/else if tree. Other cases in the tree fail in the same way and should be fixed.

As a first step, the %!tests for "complete" inputs should be expanded to include x',y' inputs so that 'make check' will actually exercise the code in question and report the error.
