Thanks, that helps.

I looked in the manual for the ";" information. The only place I could find it is in section 1.2.2 Creating a Matrix which does not seem an obvious place to look.

Perhaps in a future version of the manual this might go in conventions or the introduction section.

Adding a bit more, try 'help echo', to find that echo controls echoing of commands only. If you don't want to see the results of calculations you need to add a ';' to the end of the lines where output should be suppressed.

This isn't a bug, merely a misunderstanding, so I'm closing the report.

I think you misunderstood what echo does. It is already off by default. Try "echo on all" to compare what happens when you enable it.
