Thanks! In the git repository, I have just updated in git the section on how to set the verbosity. I have also added in an example program logging.c in the examples directory.

In doing this I've added a couple more debug messages inside the library itself. It is possible in tracking down this specific, Madnafen developers may want more information. If that happens, we can add more debug messages.

Ok. Closed.

Programming is not my forte, but I'm sure this info will be helpful to Mednafen's developer. I'll pass it along.

Since MMC and Mac OS X is a known issue, this bug report can be closed.

Thank you for all your help.

To get more logging in code that uses the libcdio library, #include <cdio/logging.h>, set cdio_loglevel_default to CDIO_LOG_DEBUG.

See src/cd-info.c and look for cdio_loglevel_default in that file.

Also see http://www.gnu.org/software/libcdio/doxygen/logging_8h.html

I will improve the libcdio documentation to show this better and add an example file in the next release of libcdio.

The libcdio block read commands on OSX on your OSX system work. That is what was used to give the file list information in iso9660. And inside the tests an ISO 96660 file is read and extracted.

Mednafen is an open source project that emulates multiple consoles: http://mednafen.sourceforge.net/ The development forum is here: http://forum.fobby.net/index.php?t=thread&frm_id=4&

I get the same result running the commands as root.

If accessing the CD with MMC and libcdio won't work in OS X, what libcdio commands would work?

Can you go into more detail about enabling the verbose log setting?

The mmc_read error is to be expected on OSX and is a known limitation. Being able to access an OSX drive for MMC is black art and apparently there are little documented but better ways to get access to the drive than libcdio uses. If I recall correctly there is some weirdness in exclusive versus non-exclusive access. The test might succeed if you run as root and/or nothing else is using the CD.

For of the known mmc problems, everything checks out so far as I can tell. The CD in particular seems to be 230MB so it shouldn't be subject to the recently fixed bugs. (Still, trying against current sources never hurts).

So the next avenue to go down is getting more detail about what's failing than "can't read most CDs properly on Mac OS X 10.6" and what mednafin is doing that is failing.

The cdio library has a verbose log setting which causes it to report what it is doing in more detail. If mednafin has a way of setting that, this might be useful.

The output from "cd-info --iso9660" is the same as just "cd-info" except for this extra info:

Based on the make check error, I'd guess that libcdio can't read from the drive completely. I didn't try the latest git source, but I will if you think it will help.

Does running
cd-info --iso9660

show file system information?

Does running from instide the libcdio source directory

make check

give any failures?

If the CD (improperly) contains more than 4GB of data, try using current git sources which fix bugs there. See bug #39373.

To be fair, I've only tested this with two different DVD/CD rewritable drives, but the results were the same for both.

Here's the output from cd-info:

This is an original, pressed PlayStation CD that I want to use with the Mednafen emulator. Mednafen uses libcdio for it's CD-ROM and CD image reading. I know that this drive can read/play CD-DA, CD-R and CD-RW, but libcdio doesn't support it.

The library was compiled with the standard "./configure; make; sudo make install" commands on Mac OS X 10.6.8. I've tried reading other CDs; both data, audio and mixed with the same result. I can try to provide more info if you tell me what to do next.
