I've pushed a change that fixes this problem for me.

The default figure position size is (420x560). Michael Goffioul proposed the explanation below, to explain why the figure's position size is reported to be (380x560).

  • Octave creates a figure object with the default position
  • FLTK backend creates the corresponding window and size it to the figure position
  • FLTK backend puts the OpenGL widget and the menubar and the statusbar within the allocated window
  • Because of the height of the menubar and statusbar, the OpenGL widget height is less than the default height from the "position" property
  • FLTK event loop processes the move/resize event that is (always) occurring when a window is initially shown
  • FLTK backend updates the position property with the real OpenGL widget size

That the rendered figure canvas is 20 pixels taller than indicated by the figure's "position" property is also present in MacOSX (see the bug report below)

A graphic of the figure with an axes object was posted on the mail list by Dimitri. The sizes of the axes (434x310) and figure positions (560x400) are indicated.

Dimitri reported that the figure's position property indicated the size of the figure was (560 x 380).

On MacOSX I verified the axes size using the commands below.

Thus, the figure's rendered position is too tall by 20 pixels. Coincidently both the toolbar at the bottom and the menubar (not shown) are each 20 pixels high.

On MacOSX the menubar appears to be obscured by the figure's canvas area. Perhaps the same issue is present for Linux.
