Emmanuel has pointed out that the Arabic ligature for "Allah" was formed only in Firefox, not in IE.
This is a mess of bugs on the browser side. I really hate to make work-arounds for other software, but... if this feature is to work at all, we have to.
The bugs have to do with at least two settings:
1) the ligature type ('dlig', 'liga') and when they are activated, or whether they are activated at all.
2) the internal representation direction Right-to-Left or Left-to-Right. Firefox and Chrome only accept 'dlig' in Left-to-Right direction, but Windows fonts are mostly set up the other way.
Besides copies of both OSs, there are at least 3 specifically Arabic fonts: Adobe Arabic, Myriad Arabic, and Sakkal Majalla (for Urdu, really). These each address the issues on Windows in quite different ways, none of which is ideal, and none of which works in Linux.
I have made some commits already, but this isn't settled yet.
