Closing since there's no bug here and no followup from OP. Please refer to the user support channels for help with installing Octave Forge packages properly in Windows: http://www.octave.org/support

It seems you're using one of the two 3.6.2 binaries available for Windows (either MinGW or Visual Studio). Both comes with a precompiled version of communications-1.1.1 package.

Any reason you're not using the precompiled version?

If you're using the binary for Visual Studio, note that you have to select the packages you want to install during the installation process. Most packages are unchecked by default and you can easily miss that you have to check them in the installer GUI.

Wow - thanks for the rapid response Mike.

There is a communications-1.1.1 directory with m-files, but no subdirectory of that with compiled oct-files.

See the attached "Communications Installation screenshot.pdf" for screen snapshots of what I typed and the responses.

Thank you so much Mike,

Derek

How specifically did you install and load the communications package? Did you follow the steps in the manual:

http://www.gnu.org/software/octave/doc/interpreter/Packages.html

The functions you are looking for are compiled oct-files, not m-files. If you installed the package properly, there should be a communications-1.1.1 directory with m-files, and a subdirectory of that with compiled oct-files.

Hi,

I may be missing something mentally rather than physically but I am trying to run the bchpoly function in the communications package.

I have installed the communication package (version communications-1.1.1) and can run the function bchpoly but with errors. ie the bchpoly function is found.

However when I type bchpoly I get an error saying the function gf is undefined. Indeed there is no gf.m file in the communications package. So I tracked one down on the internet and copied it to the communications package directory. However this is not the only .m file missing as I now get an error message saying the function isprimitive can not be found.

I attach a directory listing showing what m files are present in my communications package and a pdf showing the error messages I get before I add the gf.m file that I found and after it.

I suspect there may well be other .m files missing too.

Kind regards,

Derek Hayes
