So in conclusion, I don't believe this is a bug. Please re-open if you believe something further in FreeIPMI can be done.

The "na" outputs on the right side refer to the thresholds for a sensor (needless to say not relevant to drive slots). The present vs ok output is the 0x01 vs 0x00 listed on the left.

The system is a HP ProLiant BL465c G7

This problem was forwarded to the freeipmi project from our company internal bug tracker. Original submitter provided little details. An assumption might be that the original submitter was comparing output of ipmi-sensors with the 'ipmitool sensor ...' command which gives output like this:

...
Cntlr 1 Bay 1 | 0x1 | discrete | 0x0180| na | na | na | na | na | na
Cntlr 1 Bay 2 | 0x0 | discrete | 0x0080| na | na | na | na | na | na
Cntlr 1 Bay 3 | 0x0 | discrete | 0x0080| na | na | na | na | na | na
Cntlr 1 Bay 4 | 0x0 | discrete | 0x0080| na | na | na | na | na | na

Hi Michael,

What motherboard are you seeing this on?

ipmi-sensors is effectively being told from the motherboard, 'this sensor reports no event', resulting in the OK being output.

'no event' is different than 'not available', if the sensor reported the latter (via the sensor not being enabled), N/A would be output.

"Not present" is actually not a legal output for this sensor. If you see this in other software, its b/c the software likely maps "no event" into "not present". That assumption is dependent on the vendor implementation and cannot be assumed in general.

ipmi-sensors shows 'OK' instead of not present when no offsets set. Not present is more appropriate.

Example:

Drive bay 1 has Hard disk inserted. other bays does not have hard drives.

ipmi-sensors -h xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx -u xxxxxxxx -p xxxxxxxx -l admin -D LAN_2_0

....
..
85 | Cntlr 1 Bay 1 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'Drive Presence'
86 | Cntlr 1 Bay 2 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'OK'
87 | Cntlr 1 Bay 3 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'OK'
88 | Cntlr 1 Bay 4 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'OK'
89 | Cntlr 2 Bay 5 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'OK'
90 | Cntlr 2 Bay 6 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'OK'
91 | Cntlr 2 Bay 7 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'OK'
92 | Cntlr 2 Bay 8 | Drive Slot | N/A | N/A | 'OK'

Note: for Not installed drives it could show N/A or Not Present
