Nice. I haven't slept well tonight because I saw your report yesterday evening. Therefore I'm installing Fedora 18 in a virtual machine at the moment to debug this and I'm really relieved that you solved it yourself.

Sorry for causing trouble.
Regards, Andy

Closing, glad you got it resolved.

Finally, I noticed that on the failing system
automake 1.11 had been used to generate the
top Makefile. And, the top-level Makefile
was incorrect. I am sure that I re-ran
./configure, but....

Just now I did a clone and started a new build.
The makefile essentially now matches to one on
an fc18 system which builds correctly.

So, time to close this bug report.

I am sure that the current build will be correct.

Another observation:
From the line :
Octave is now configured for x86_64-unknown-linux-gnu

to the end of each config.log file the files on the
system that works and the one that fails are
identical.

So, it does not appear to be a configuration
problem at the ./configure level.

Also, all /usr/lib64/fftw* library files are the
same on both systems.

This line in previous comment:
-lfftw3_threads -lfftw3f_threads -lfftw3 -lfftw3f -lutil'libinterp
got corrupted. Should have read:
-lfftw3_threads -lfftw3f_threads -lfftw3 -lfftw3f -lutil

On a system that works
libinterp/dldfcn/fftw.la
contains:
-lfftw3_threads -lfftw3f_threads -lfftw3 -lfftw3f -lutil'libinterp

The _threads libraries are missing on the system that fails.

But, ./configure found those libraries on both systems.

Ideas?

This looks related to

http://hg.savannah.gnu.org/hgweb/octave/rev/bde7731b2b83

But I did not get the same error after building it. Can you paste the complete linker command line?

As a workaround you can configure with --disable-fftw-threads.

The error messages is:

-lncurses -lpcre -ldl -lgfortran -lquadmath -lutil -lm -pthread -Wl,-rpath -Wl,/usr/local/lib/octave/3.7.1+
/d/src/octave/hg/octave/liboctave/.libs/liboctave.so: undefined reference to `fftw_init_threads'

/d/src/octave/hg/octave/liboctave/.libs/liboctave.so: undefined reference to `fftwf_init_threads'
collect2: error: ld returned 1 exit status

This is a new Fedora 18 system, so there may be a configuration
problem, but nothing appeared to be missing. config.log looked OK.

I will do some more checking, but if anyone knows what is wrong
it would be nice to know.
