This doesn't sound like an Octave bug, but a problem with your installation. Please follow up on -unavailable- stating precisely which Octave version you downloaded (i.e. MinGW or MSVC) and what steps you followed to install it.

Suppose you have an image "image1.tif" in the directory and at the prompt you type

>> imshow('image1.tif');


then the image is shown in a figure window (if the image file is not corrupt).

If I do it in 3.6.2 a Windows error windows pops up with the message:

"This application has failed to start because libjpeg-8.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

I have not re-installed 3.6.2 (because of the "may") and imshow is always worked on previous releases.
