This bug is not present in the current 3.6.3 release. Since you're using Ubuntu, try one of the following options for upgrading:

Saving and then loading a particular range variable changes the size (possible rounding error?) of that variable.

Example code included, if load / save was working correctly then the two numbers printed should be the same (100). They are not.

Resulting .mat also included.
