And, (just for the record) what is the first line from a result of "gnash --version" command on your machine?

Okay, this confirmed that Gnash itself could play them.

Next, could you visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87E6N7ToCxs via Firefox with Gnash plugin (verbosity 2 with "Log parser output" enabled), and post the log file here?

And, (just for the record) what is the first line from a result of +verbatim+gnash --version-verbatim- command on your machine?

The video played in the Gnash standalone just fine.

I still had an issue in Firefox.

I added some output so I hope it helps.

If the plugin failed, you may try using Gnash standalone to play Youtube movie as a workaround in the meantime, by substituting '/watch?v=XXXXXX' bit in the URL with '/v/XXXXXX'

For example, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87E6N7ToCxs (Disney's Wreck-It Ralph trailer), run this command on the terminal:

gnash http://www.youtube.com/v/87E6N7ToCxs

If it plays, you could be certain that it's not a codec problem or Gnash itself. But if it didn't play, it will confirm that problem rooted from Gnash, not the plugin.

Also in your case, it seems that Gnash failed on loading the player (rather than video), so checking the "Be verbose about parsing the movie" box in Gnash preference may give useful information for developer. Set logging verbosity to 2 might reveal something too.

I'll try to confirm this if I have a chance to set up an Ubuntu or Debian installation via PearPC emulator. (I'm using i386)

I'm experiencing problems in Firefox 20 on an old PPC eMac that's running Ubuntu. I tried to watch a video on YouTube, but the video won't play. It stays a solid black box. I captured this output in the terminal:

INFO: NS_DestroyPluginInstance 0x48220780
INFO: ~nsPluginInstance 0x48220780
ERROR: Stream exception in ParseThread basic_ios::clear
INFO: ~RenderThread this=0x482cb380
Could not load movie '-'

I have lubuntu 12.04 (powerpc build) on an iBook G4 that still runs fine (1.42GHz CPU and 512 RAM). I have installed three packages "gnash", "gnash common" and "browser-plugin-gnash" from synaptic package manager (all maked 0.8.10-5ubuntu1). A common problem with Firefox is that Gnash will not play at all in Firefox; and common in the sense that noone with powerpc on the Ubuntu Forum apple section seems to be able to make it work. I have spent quite some time on irc with expert help and still not found a way to sort it out. It looks like the browser plugin package for powerpc is broken. Gnash player runs fine, clear and mooth by it`s self with test video streams. An odd thing is that Gnash Player works in Midori; player is detected fine and plays arguably well with youtube videos (a bit jerkily). In Firefox the player doesn`t register at all, there is only a black space where the video should appear.

Is this a bug that is likely to be checked out by developers or testers? Gnash is sort of one of the very few options left for powerpc.
