OBE, GUI build no longer uses mkoctfile.

Ok, that makes sense. I wanted to make sure it got fixed sooner rather than later if this external add-on approach was going to be supported for any official releases.

We plan to fix the build system so that there is only one Octave binary built that includes the GUI/IDE code. The current system is not what we want, so tweaking it doesn't make much sense to me.

There must be a way to specify a path to mkoctfile when compiling the gui, either passing it in to qmake or make, via command line or the environment, e.g.
If not given, it should use the default of "mkoctfile". I know qmake allows passing variables on the command line like this, but it apparently don't override the default value hard-coded in the .pro file. Looked for a few minutes but haven't found a solution yet. Need the equivalent of "=?" or "ifndef" for qmake syntax.

I think this is essential for developers and packagers who are almost definitely working with multiple builds of Octave at any given time and want to link with the right one.
