Wow, that was silly. Just went to the place I mention and instead of the totally stupid conversion I propose below, I used tm_decode().

Well, at least I fixed the highlighting...

A lot of effort and 4 lines of code later, extern tags display properly (SVN 5550). The problem with the conversion is still there... :(

It seems that the DRD as set in drd_std.cpp is not completely heeded. Changes in arity have an effect (i.e. setting it to fixed()) but changes to the properties of the fields are not (i.e. all types() are ignored).

In particular, I assume there is some proper place to stop texmacs from converting the ">" into a "<gtr>", or more probably the other way around. Also, the use of one of those "translators" might be advisable.

Or maybe there is a way to tag some tags (he!) as having "verbatim arguments" ??

Inside env_exec.cpp, method edit_env_rep::rewrite(), you can add the following lines in the case EXTERN, after the first if:

And you have it fixed. This is of course ugly, but it can allow you to use the extern tag until a real solution is found.

Strangely enough, if you save the document without activating the <\extern> tag, and then reopen it, you can activate the tag.

Similarly to bug #35780, when placed inside an <extern> primitive a ">" character in the scheme code is escaped:

<unnamed port>:1:40: In expression (tree-<gtr>string x):
<unnamed port>:1:40: Unbound variable: tree-<gtr>string
